Obituary

Jabez Jones Campbell was born on August 22, 1972 and passed away on December 5, 2024, at the age of 52.

Jabez was adopted into the Campbell family at the age of six months on February 22, 1973. He was the fourth child of eight to be adopted into the family. He was born a member of the Tuscarora Nation but was later adopted into the Cayuga Nation.

At the age of eight, he was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Jabez attended school in Gowanda, New York. He played the trombone in the school band, but also became proficient on the violin. As a child, he learned to play the 3rd movement of Vivaldi's Violin Concerto in A minor from memory. He was an avid reader and wherever he was, you could be sure that a book was close by. He received his GED in New York City, where he resided until his death.

Jabez loved music and often mixed tracks under the name of Dee Jay West. He had a quick wit and seemed to have the gift of making people laugh. He also had a tender side and was able to empathize with others.

He was the loving son of Monty and Corline Campbell and cherished brother of:

Michael (Lluvia) Campbell, Christine Campbell, Joseph Campbell, Evie Lynn Campbell, Julie (Brett) Taufer, Samuel (Susan) Campbell, Paul Douglas Campbell, Monty Campbell II, Charity Campbell.

Jabez was preceded in death by his brothers, Philip Wayne Campbell and Steven Nicholas Campbell, as well as his partner of many years, Lewys Colon. He is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Jabez was dearly loved and will be greatly missed, but we look forward to the day that we will be reunited with him again.

A memorial service was held for Jabez on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Irving, NY.  Arrangements by Wentland Funeral Home North Collins, NY.
